An ambitious and far-reaching exhibition across the Ian Potter Centre: NGV and NGV International, Melbourne Now was a collaborative, cross-disciplinary project aimed at celebrating the contribution of creative practitioners to the city’s unique and dynamic cultural identity.
We were one of four local studios (Fabio Ongarato Design, Ortolan and Cato Brand Partners) invited to design specific sections within the exhibition’s limited edition catalog. Working in isolation from the other practitioners, we were briefed to design a section featuring essays by Melbourne Now curators. Drawing inspiration from Melbourne’s renowned Hoddle grid, we created an underlying framework based on its 56 modules. This ‘skeleton’ is exposed on each page, showing how elements of the layout (text, images etc) lock to the grid.
